Lisa Goldfarb, M.D. – Psychiatrist

Dr. Lisa Goldfarb is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at NYU Langone Medical Center, and maintains a private practice with offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights. She has expertise in diagnostic evaluations and specializes in addiction psychiatry (both behavioral addictions and substance abuse), general psychiatry, psychopharmacology, mood and anxiety disorders, attention deficit disorder and women’s mental health issues.

In addition, Dr. Goldfarb is a trained psychoanalyst, and uses psychodynamic therapy, cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, supportive psychotherapy and relaxation techniques in her practice. She carefully prescribes psychiatric medications, and recommends complementary and alternative medications and techniques when appropriate to a patient’s care. She also meets with concerned family members or friends to help them understand the best approach to addressing substance abuse and self-destructive behaviors in their loved ones.

Dr. Goldfarb is a supervisor and mentor to residents and fellows in the Department of Graduate Medical Education at NYU. She also is the course director and teaches in the psychiatry residency didactic curriculum. Dr. Goldfarb has presented at the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, American Psychoanalytic Association Meetings and the NYU psychiatric residency curriculum. She is invited frequently to give grand rounds at other university teaching hospitals in New York City.
